Donkeylicious: Your Insurance Premiums Under the Affordable Care ...
The Vermont's HCR Agency (seriously, they made a whole new department just to handle Health Care Reform?) has published a very nice table showing how much a typical household earning less than 400% of the Federal Poverty Line can expect to pay for health insurance. It's unclear to me whether or not there is any sort of regional cost-of-living or cost-of-insurance adjustment to these figures. But it should give readers a good ballpark estimate of how much they might pay for insurance.
The basic story here is that households qualifying for subsidized insurance won't pay more than 9.5% of their income for insurance. In many cases, they'll be paying much less. Also, everyone will be getting something for their money, since all insurance plans sold on the exchange will have to offer 100% coverage of most preventative services. Past 400% of FPL, the subsidies disappear, but most people who earn that much money already have employer-sponsored insurance.

Connor Cruise on Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes Split: Family is Forever!
There's a potential custody fight over Suri Cruise on the horizon, but when it comes to Tom Cruise's older kids, the ties that bind seem to be tight ones.
Isabella and Connor Cruise, his two adopted children with ex Nicole Kidman, have so far remained mum on the impending Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes divorce.
But Connor seems to be weighing in, subtly, taking to Twitter to allude to the news: "#LaFamilia Always. Friends Come And Go, But Family Is Forever."
Connor Cruise, 17, is especially tight with his dad. These last few weeks, he was on hand as Tom received the Friar's Club's Entertainment Icon Award.
The 33-year-old Holmes, who is reportedly seeking sole custody of Suri, 6, has been close to her stepson and stepdaughter since marrying Tom.
Holmes has hunkered down in NYC following the split, amid speculation that his commitment to Scientology played a role in the relationship's demise.
Cruise, who's been on location in Iceland filming the sci-fi flick Oblivion, has just hired Dennis Wasser to represent him in the divorce battle ahead.
That's the same attorney who handled his divorce from Kidman in 2001; He and Nicole, who is re-married to Keith Urban, remain on good terms.

Iran says it wants 'win-win' in nuclear talks

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) ? Iran wants a "win-win" outcome in its talks with world powers over Tehran's disputed nuclear program, the country's foreign minister said Monday, warning that the only other choice is confrontation.
Three rounds of nuclear negotiations between Iran and six world powers have failed to produce a breakthrough. A low-level meeting of technical experts is scheduled for Tuesday in Istanbul to see whether there is enough common ground to return to full-fledged talks.
"We want to see a win-win outcome," Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi told the semiofficial ISNA news agency on the eve of the discussions in Turkey. "In the talks, the other side has no choice but to find an agreement, otherwise confrontation will be the alternative. I don't think that common sense is looking for a confrontation."
Iran is locked in a tense standoff with the West over Tehran's nuclear program, which the Islamic Republic insists is purely for civilian purposes, such as producing energy and medical isotopes.
The U.S., Israel and others suspect the program is instead a cover for building nuclear weapons. Israel has accused Iran of stretching out the talks to move closer to the ability to make an atomic bomb, and it has threatened to attack Iran a last resort.
Salehi said Iran prefers diplomacy to conflict, but stressed that it is prepared for anything.
"We are looking for a deal and not a confrontation, but if they (world powers) want to react unwisely, they should know that Iran will firmly defend its rights as it did during the Iran-Iraq war" in the 1980s, he said.
The U.S. and EU have imposed several rounds of sanctions to pressure Iran to give up it uranium enrichment program. On Sunday, an EU ban on the purchase of Iranian oil took effect, days after new U.S. sanctions prohibited the world's banks from completing oil transactions with Iranian banks.
Iran acknowledged that the measures were taking a toll, saying it has stockpiled goods and hard currency to help cushion the economy.
The Islamic Republic initially responded to the sanctions by threatening to block the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic waterway through which about one-fifth of the world's oil is shipped. Officials appeared Sunday to back off from that threat, which roiled international oil markets at the time.
But the Iranian parliament's committee on national security and foreign policy drafted a bill calling for Tehran to block the strait to tankers shipping oil to countries that support the sanctions, a lawmaker said Monday.
Ebrahim Aghamohammadi, who is a committee member, told the official IRNA news agency the bill will soon be discussed in parliament, and said that some 100 lawmakers have already expressed supported for the draft legislation.

Obama Health Care Law: Republican Governors, Legislators Not Ready To Fully Commit
WASHINGTON -- In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act?s individual mandate, the battle over health care has shifted, in large part, to governors? offices and statehouses across the country.
States now have responsibility to create health insurance exchanges and decide whether or not to expand Medicaid coverage. The extent to which they choose to do so could determine how people perceive the law and the actual success of reform.
In the immediate aftermath of the ruling, the response has been mixed. State level reactions to the Supreme Court?s decision have ranged from active compliance to open defiance. As HuffPost?s Amanda Terkel reported, several high profile Republican governors including Louisiana?s Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin?s Scott Walker have taken hardline stances against implementing the ACA in its entirety.
?We?re not going to start implementing Obamacare,? Gov. Jindal told reporters on a Friday morning conference call, before saying, ?We?re going to work very hard to get Governor Romney elected so this law will be repealed long before the effective dates.?
On the specific issue of creating a state health insurance exchange -- which states have the choice to either set up and run themselves with government funding, or defer to the federal government to create and control -- some state lawmakers have signaled immediate opposition. Their unwillingness comes despite a January 2013 deadline for states to establish health exchange plans before the federal government does it for them.
?Senators do not intend to take up legislation this year to create a health benefit exchange,? said North Carolina Republican State Senate leader Phil Berger, ?the General Assembly needs time to process and understand this mixed ruling on Obamacare.?
Though no longer mandatory, the expansion of Medicaid coverage has drawn equal ire in states. Though the ACA offers full federal funding for expanded coverage for the first three years before state contributions eventually rise to 10 percent of Medicaid costs, some Republican state lawmakers have wasted no time portraying the law as a burdensome mandate.
?If this unfunded Medicaid expansion is implemented,? said Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman in a released statement, ?state aid to education and funding for the University of Nebraska will be cut or taxes will be increased. If some state senators want to increase taxes of cut education funding, I will oppose them.?
Florida Gov. Rick Scott, whose state helped lead the legal charge against President Obama?s health care law, told WOKV in Jacksonville that he opposed an expansion of Medicaid coverage on the grounds that his state could not afford it.
Not all Republican state lawmakers took such a hardline against the ACA?s implementation. The Salt Lake Tribune reported that Utah Gov. Gary Herbert plans to follow federal health care mandates for the time being, while refusing ?to do something that is going to bust our budget? in the future.
Former Office of Management and Budget director and Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, who plans to step down at the end of his term, took what on the surface seems a more moderate approach. Daniels said he would leave the decision on a possible Medicaid expansion to future state legislators.
Some GOP lawmakers have expressed their view that compliance with some key aspects of the health care law is a way to ensure at least some state control over the process. As CBS News reports, Republican Colorado state legislator Bob Gardner argued that by moving forward on the creation of insurance exchanges ?Colorado did the right thing by having a mechanism to do its best to impose a Colorado solution.?
In a similar statement, Michigan Republican Gov. Rick Snyder expressed his belief that ?working with our legislative leaders to establish the MiHealth Marketplace will allow Michiganders to make decisions regarding what will be covered as opposed to Washington, D.C., making those decisions for us.?
It remains unclear how some states will react to Thursday?s Supreme Court decision, with many lawmakers conspicuously trying to keep their future options open.
